Economic Distress Shows in FCSD1

At last night’s board meeting Superintendent Bowman shared a shocking piece of information while going through enrollment data with the board. FCSD 1 has experienced a 54% increase in the number of students qualifying for free and reduced meals from last year. Last year we had 467 students qualifying. This year that number has exploded to 719.
That is 719 students of poverty in a student population of a bit more than 1,700. 42%. Nearly half.
We keep patting ourselves on the back over the strength of the Wyoming economy compared to the rest of the country. Time to sober up.
